A Little Free Time
Adriel has started this program offered by the school in our neighbourhood called Kindergarten Readiness. It's on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. It sort of works out perfectly, because I take him, and then I put Sloan down for a nap and I get two hours of freedom!! Most of you mothers would probably spend that time catching up on laundry, or other house work that may be lagging, but I'm sorry, I'm not as good as you. I read, or have a little sleep, blog and do things that I feel like doing. Sure, if I feel like cleaning, I will. It does happen, you know. There's something to be said about playing good tunes and getting into the nitty gritty, and making everything sparkle. But while Adriel is gone and Sloan is asleep I take some time for myself. And it's nice. Especially since Kyle isn't around much to relieve me of my motherly duties. But that's not anything new. When you're a student all your free time is spent studying and working, and then when school's done for the year, all your free time is spent working as much as you can to save up enough money to hopefully not have to work as much the next year....oh and to move. What a lovely expense that is.

I like Sundays because Kyle doesn't have to work at either one of his jobs. Church starts at 10 (which I think is the perfect time) and we come home, put Sloan to bed and eat and relax. Yesterday was "family dinner" at Marla's. She lives out in the country. The kids spent the whole time outside. Kyle and I ate our dinner out on her deck. "Papa Joe" her husband gave the kids a tractor ride which they were thrilled about. Adriel got filthy climbing on and off the tractor while it was parked. The weather has suddenly gotten so nice. Tons of sunshine and this week it's ranging between 20-25. So nice! I like this kind of spring. I don't want it to get a whole lot hotter though, because it's already sort of sweltering in my house.

The outdoor soccer season started. That was my mother's day gift. My first game was last week. It was a doozy. We started with only 8 players, and by half time another person showed up. If you are unfamiliar with soccer, it's 11 players on the field at once. So not only were we short, but no subs on top of it. I was exhausted by the end of the game! It's a big change from indoor because the field size is basically double and each half was 45 mins long (indoor was 25 minute halves). It took me a good four days for my body to recover. It was a different kind of sore. Of course it doesn't help that I'm not in the best of shape. We didn't do too badly considering though. We only lost one nothing. My next game is tomorrow. So looking forward to it. I love soccer. I know I've expressed that several times, but I really do, alright?

You know what else I love? Lazy summer evenings of sitting outside in the backyard while the kids play and reading a book. I also love Adriel's very brown chubby hands.

I love soccer too! Wish I could play with you...maybe in some far distant future where we live in the same country and stuff :) love ya cuz.

i love adriel's chubby brown hands too. i think it's good that you take some time for yourself when you have some down time. it keeps you sane. well as sane as can be expected...

What better mothers do you think? You gotta take time for yourself when you get it! I would do the same thing!

I'm glad you took time for yourself! I think it is much needed. Especially for hardworking mothers like yourself. :)

i agree... you deserved the time off to do whatever you wanted with it! and if you don't want it to get much hotter than 20-25 you're in for a real treat when you realize that the okanagan will have weeks at a time where it gets up to at least 30. usually more like 35... maybe a bit higher. its seriously HOT here in the summer.

I love the things you said you love. Adriel's brown chubby hands especially. Little sunburnt paws.

And you KNOW I would do the same thing given the chance to have an hour or two to myself.
