Maybe I should write a blog?
What joy has filled his heart, now that he can ride his bike again. He would live outside if he could, I think.

These are the neigh-neighs (As Sloan calls them) that live behind our house. Sloan loves horses. Well, he pretty much loves all animals, but horses and dogs seem to be his favourite.

The field and our back alley

The stream that runs behind the field behind our house. Adriel said "too bad we aren't wearing our bathing suits!" It may have been bearable that day, but still freezing!
I tried to capture the strange way the snow melted. These were taken a few weeks ago. It almost looks like a wave. Or maybe I just miss the west coast.

These are not uncommon. I actually drove through this very puddle when it was combined with slush and sprayed someone on the opposite side of the road by accident. There are huge puddles all over the roads. Drenching a poor pedestrian isn't actually a joke here, it's reality. It makes me think of  Jordan and Evan driving the van extra fast through the puddle by the church.

Mr Sloanie got a tricycle from Grandma Stratton for his birthday. We finally went to pick one up. He was thrilled.

Ok, so I'm bad at self portraits. And yes, even though I rarely leave the house, I do try to look nice every now and again.

I'm bored a lot. Lately, Kyle has been working evenings. This throws me off because I'm used to him being gone during the day and having his company at night. Even though he is home during the day most of his time is spent studying for up coming exams. Man, I'll be glad when those are done. He takes breaks to eat lunch with me and to watch something while Sloan is having a nap and Adriel is having "quite time." Adriel has made many neighbourhood friends in our back alley. He rides bikes with them and they play around in the big field out back. It doesn't matter if you are a boy or a girl or how old you are, he's ready to be your friend and play with you. I'm so glad that winter is over.

Spring here is so ugly. Lots of muddy wet brown dirty everything. I wonder how it'll ever be dry or even green again. Our whole front lawn is covered in brown sand from plowing the roads and keeping them safe. I took some pictures of the strange way that the snow was melting and of some of our little springtime attempts to go outside, and to document what winnipeg looks like. Oh and I forgot to say EEEW!!!! to the people who didn't clean up their dog poo the whole winter. SO GROSS! I wrote this part before uploading the pics, but now it seems we are at the bottom of the blog. The pictures and the writing don't want to cooperate for me. No one else seems to have a problem with it. Oh well. I have more to write, more to share, if anyone's listening.

oh we're listening. share! what do you mean you're not good at self-portraits?! that's a spicy little pic of you and you know it. i know what you mean about the ugly beginning of spring in places like that. i remember what extreme joy filled my heart when little green weeds started coming out of the cracks in the sidewalk in ft. mcmurray. it was like i was completely starved of green living things. anyway it'll happen and it'll be a miracle and not anything you take for granted.

It still looks so wintry there! Adriel's such a friendly lil guy. I bet he'll miss his friends, but it's a good thing he's so good at making new ones.

Totally listening! Do share! Winnipeg is so wonderful for friendliness. I hope you can find a pocket of it here but that kind of kid-friendliness I have never found here. Could be something to do with all the old people. The OK has the highest percentage of retirees (I know the island has a lot, too, but we have more). Could be something to do with how much it costs to live here, too, which discourages young families. Its pretty brown and wet here when the snow melts, too. But that happens a lot sooner here, than there and its over a lot quicker. For a truly beautiful spring that never has an ugly day the coast is the only place for that. Our snow melts like that, too - its because of all the salt in the sand that they spray on the roads.

Oh no! I thought I was escaping the seniors and their judging stares when I left Nanaimo!

adriel sounds like andrew. it didn't matter where we were, andrew was always making new friends. we would be moving into a new house, and andrew would already have made friends with every kid on the block.

and no... you have not escaped the judgemental old people. they're all here...
